Checked out things both at the EB shop and the website. Nada. Nil. Zero. Even if they do stock it , the standard box set will be priced at something like $109 AUD.:( I like Finland even more now, snow, vodka and Collectors Boxed sets! Kippis.:)

" Thanks for contacting us!

With regards to IL2 Sturmovik: Cliffs of Dover, I have just spoken with our Buying department and they have advised me that this game will be available to preorder as of tomorrow. We don’t as of yet have a confirmed release date for it, or whether there will be a collectors, but according to them it is definitely being released in Australia at least as a standard edition.

Thanks for your enquiry, we look forward to hearing from you soon. "

is the wording of the email (received yesterday pm) response... oh, well - see what happens Monday, this little black duck will ;)

Got an e-mail from Webbhallen.com today saying my order for the collectors edition will not be available on release in Sweden.

They offered me a 6 euros discount if a changed my order to the standard dvd.

So, no collectors edition :( (so far)

Should we order it from the UK instead then? I guess they will get the CE version at least?

Seems very unclear as to witch sites get the CE and when (for preorder)

All we can do is wait.

My pre-order from "Webhallen.se"(a swedish web-store) was just cancelled saying:
-"Tyvärr har vi fått information från vår leverantör att denna
utgåva inte kommer vara tillgänglig"
which translates to:
-"Unfortunately have we received information from our supplier that this
edition not will be available"

Their homepage now states
"OBS! Utvecklas ej längre!"
Which translates to:
"N.B [Is_being]Developed no longer!"

I told Webhallen to take their Judas-money and piss off... and that I would
spend spend the €6 on postage having IL2:COD-CE sent from UK instead.

So... Just:
1: Find trustworthy that lives in UK, (join a squad or whatever).
2: Have them order the collectors edtition for you.
3: Flip UBI-Soft a mental bird as you pick up the collectors edition from the post-office.
4: And for future-reference, avoid anything which has the "UBI Soft" brand.

Hello all, I just wanted to post some information that I found on the web for our favorite sim pastime.

Amazon.com
http://www.amazon.com/2-Sturmovik-Cliffs-Dover-Pc/dp/B004L5SJ4Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1298654700&sr=8-1

Gogamer.com
http://www.gogamer.com/IL-2-Sturmovik--Cliffs-Dover-PC-Front-Page_stcVVproductId129065929VVcatId444710VVviewpro d.htm

The Amazon site has no picture and it has the release date of April 19th 2011.
(needs an update to help boost sales!)

Gogamer has March 25th 2011

IL-2 Sturmovik: Cliffs Dover PC
Ship when available
Preorder: AvailableMar 25, 2011
$42.90 You Save: $7.09 (14%) $42.90

Items Subtotal: $42.90
Estimated Shipping: $2.99
Estimated Total: $45.89

The above site only took two days on my 1946 DVD with the minimal shipping. Some ol friends got theirs in one day from California. The main stores I think were a week or two later. Pacific fighter was about the same as well.

To my Canadien simmers. I do not believe they ship to Canada. This of course was the policy when 1946 came out..

If I can find my old reciept with the main phone number, I'll ask if they still are in the business of getting International games (I) . I am confused about the whole issue of who's getting the collectors edition, however, if it is a limited release mabey they could get that as well. This was the case with purchases from Just Flight (England). I hope this is not violating some forum rule but it would be nice if it all was a little less merky. (Marketing)

Famous last words at the EB store. "IL-2 Sturmo what?" The Electronics Boutique is a crappy store ever since the X Box and PS were invented. If you go into one of those stores asking for a PC game they look at you like you're a dirty homeless person, no offence, and they're Anita Bryant. It's confirmed! Spoke to EB Customer Service and the Standard and Collectors Box sets will be available to pre-order as of tomorrow in Australia. They are entering the details on their computer as of this very minute! They have not confirmed the details of the Collectors Set as there may be something different in it for the Australian release, then again, maybe not. Prices are set at $89.95 and $109.95 AUD for each set. At last!:)

OK 25 Days till takeoff, and it seems still no where to preorder COD Collectors edition from in UK, apart from Ubishop, Who have already stated they wont ship till release date.

Its almost like Ubisoft WANT this to Fail, like they did Silent Hunter. I bet when they dont get the sales they want, They will complain its down to A - Pirates as normal. B. No one is intrested in Sims or C. Pc Gamer is over.

They will forget D. They didnt give us anyway to purchase the smegging thing.

Oleg, I want to support you, I want to purchase COD Collectors, (So you guys get more money)

Why wont you let us.

Yes I am aware that Download is avaliable elsewhere, However I only have a 512kb internet connection so thats not practical, also Im old school, I like to have the product in my hand.

Im sorry to moan, But after waiting god knows how many years for this, Then being given a date, yet the only way to pre order is through a internet shop that, well to be honest I want nothing to do with, is torture.

Quoting jcenzano's post who's quoting Puolenkuunpelit:

IL2 STURMOVIK CLIFFS OF DOVER Collectors Edition PC will not be released by Ubisoft.
The release changed to the normal version of the game.

We are very sorry about the new release information.
The few times we confirmed the products availability the suppliers told the collectors edition was coming according to Ubisoft's release lists.

This was from the cancellation mail gotten from Puolenkuunpelit. My friend got the same.

Hi guys,

FYI - Got this email this morning from Boostep which I have ordered from, being in the U.S:

"Hi,

unfortunatly I have some bad news about the IL-2Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover Collectores edition: Ubisoft has decided to cancel the release of this game. Here is the official statement from UbiSoft Nordic:

IL2: Cliffs of Dover Collector's Edition
----------

Due to a failure in the manufacturing of several components for IL2: Cliffs of Dover ?I am sorry to inform you, that Ubisoft not will be able to deliver this product as ?requested and furthermore we will not start up the manufacturing again.
I have arranged to have the standard version exclusively for the ?Nordic countries only due to the fact this version only was meant to ?be a downloadable version.
I apologize for the inconvenience this may have cost you and customers.
?Ubisoft Nordic A/S

The good news is that I can offer you a Special Nordic edition for the price of 43 euros + shipping. If you choose to order this version I will refund the difference, of course.
If you choose to cansel the whole order I will refund the whole sum of money.
I am truly sorry abut this since I know many people has been waiting for the release of this game. And I hope the possibility to purchase this special nordic edition some how can compensate parts of the inconvenience. I have ordered some of this game already so all preorders that has been placed for the collectors edition should get one of these nordic edition. It is to my understanding that the difference is mainly that the booklets and such is not included but the game is the same.

Kind regards,
Monika / Boostep customer service"

I'm going to look into whether the CE is generally cancelled and clarify this stuff.

This is hilarious.

"Due to a failure in the manufacturing of several components for IL2: Cliffs of Dover

requested and furthermore we will not start up the manufacturing again."

UBI: That's a pathetic excuse.

I've dealt with major product releases in the banking world for years (i.e. new bank accounts / credit products etc.) It's very easy to source an alternative supplier of materials to get your product out. You simply pick up the phone or type on your keyboard and get expressions of interest to supply you with the materials you need. Hell we've even sourced manufactures for promotional material from China and India for goodness sake. Yes you may be delayed, and yes it's embarrassing, but as matter of professionalism, heart and intestinal-fortitude, you'd do what ever it takes to get the product out. It's all about professionalism; this statement is purely a financial cop out in my eyes, nothing more.

Edit: WTF: I just contacted EBGames Australia. I confirmed the CE edition is available for pre-order $109.95 but there's no release date set. It's not listed on the customer web site at the moment but they have it listed internally and the guy said I could pre-order it today.

I didnt realise how complicated buying a game could be, then ubisoft showed me.

they are killing the image of this game with their antics.. started with the whole pre-order collectors/"no soup for you" stance. no collectors for anyone.. too hard.

probably too late and will never happen, but if 1C decide to sell this directly as a download with all profits going to them and not a cent Ubisoft, i'll happily pay for it twice.

Just went into EB games and they said CoD and the collectors edition was available for preorder. $109 AUD for CE and $89 for normal game. The bloke was very helpful and was even aware of the existence of the game. However he had no release date and said it would likely be released in the US before oz as it would have to come through EB's American parent company game stop.

At a guess this suggests to me that game stop will be stocking both editions.

But just one more thing- has anybody ever had to go through such hassle to buy a commercial product?

Ubi strikes me as one of the most incompetent companies I have ever had anything to do with. Are the a listed company? If I were a shareholder I would be dumping my stock as clearly this company has a very low opinion of it's customers.

Unfortunately they are unable to do that.
So, I then had to drive 150km to the nearest EB store to pre-order in person.
As Ubisoft has stated there will be a limited number of copies coming from the US, even if you have pre-paid the full amount, it is a case of first ordered, first served. you should analyze the current sales of IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 in Europe and the USA.
I think that IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 has more 'sold in Europe instead of USA
while the pacific fighter-IL-2 has sold more 'in U.S.A. rather than in Europe, only 'cause his name is called PACIFIC FIGHTER.
the U.S.A. sometimes they are too superficial and do not realize that the product goes for its technical merit and not just for the name.

Xilon_x

In fact there are many peoples who have only pacific fighter.
they require com pacific fighter upgrade to version 4.10.
impossible before you buy IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 and then you can upgrade to version 4.10m

AFTER go in GERMANY in the center of EUROPE after from GERMANY go to ENGLAND north ITALY south and FRANCE east(SPAIN).
After the product from FRANCE and FROM ENGLAND go to AMERICA south america BRASIL ARGENTINA and north AMERICA U.S.A. CANADA.

I think that is so 'the evolution of the distribution.

Ordered the collectors edition from Finland (I'm from Denmark) which got cancelled. Phoned up Ubisoft Nordic, which couldn't help me with any kind of helpful information about getting the collectors edition.

This is really insane - we want to buy this great game, but are not "allowed" by Ubisoft.
-just google for a proxy server that is located in the Uk.
or use any from this list
http://www.samair.ru/proxy/type-09.htm
-go to the LAN/Connections options of your browser and configure it to connect through a proxy
-go to the main webpage of cllifs of dover http://il2sturmovik.ubi.com/cliffs-of-dover/. Then click the preorder button and you should be taken to the uk page of ubi to order. Or you can also go directly to ubi.com and browse for the game.
-preorder the game and tell them to send it to Denkmark (free shipping I guess)
-enjoy the game when they send it to you.

ps. maybe you are not comfortable ordering through a proxy, i understand. I would reccomend you no to use the bank account in whchi you have all your life savings. just in case. PAYPAL didn´t work for me via proxy, so I had to use thedebit card. It´s a risk, but i use a debit card that i use only to buy online associated to a bank account to which I transfer only the money I need for online shoppinga at a given time.

I have probably busted a buch of the forum´s rules...

By logging in to shop.ubi.com via a UK proxy you are able to find the Collectors Edition. You are also able to put it in your shopping cart, but you are not able to submit the order. Neither with PayPal nor with a credit card

I guess we'll have to make a trip to England this summer.

I found a way to order the CE safely through the proxy with PAYPAL/credit card (I tested it with PAYPAL).

1. go to UBI.com (according to your country) and create an account with your local addres. this account is valid also to login in UBI UK.

2.Use the proxy to order the collector edition UNTIL YOU ARE ABOUT TO GET REDIRECTED TO PAYPAL.

3.Without leaving the page, go to your browser configuration and unclick the proxy option, so now you navigate normally. (the UBI website won´t detect that you are not connecting from the uk anymore)

4. Procced normally (and safely) with your payment with PAYPAL.

I just ordered a collectors edition this way and got the payment confirmation email from PAYPAL

Dear friends, greetings from Holland,

I've been lurking around for quite a while now. Actually, I'm one of those old farts that directly bought IL2 when it came out, back in 2001. Hard to believe the engine used is a decade old, but still looks extremely nice with everything maxed out on a new PC.

Anyway, I'm not here to show my praise towards the original, which was simply one of the best games I've ever played. I am here, though, to express my anger regarding this modern-day distribution thing. Around 2005 or so, digital download started to get popular. Personally, I am extremely against this kind of distribution. Why? Because I want to touch my copy. I want to hold it, sleep with it, whatever. More serious, I don't believe in "virtual purchases", or so to call. You never, ever know whether they will one day put an halt to a kind of service, certainly in these economic turbulent times.

Anyway, I can write 5 pages about how nostalgic I am, and how fond I am of opening a 15 year old box with a disk still looking brand new. Unfortunately, I don't have the time nor the energy to do so at this time, but I'll save it for the future.

What I basically want to say, is that I deeply, deeply regret this kind of distribution. In the Netherlands, it seems the game is ONLY available throughout digital download. Not even a basic variant of the game is released in our country. Yeah, through download.....

The tempt is big to write a long, dull rant about modern-day publishers, but that is also not what I'm going to do. Believe me, my fingers are itching, but I'm sure you guys have all heard it before, and will hear it again.

The question I wonder; Did I become too mature for games, or did games become too mature for me? Are we entering a stage in which cheap downloadable distribution, with no guarantees for the future whatsoever, take over the old-fashioned way of publishing? I think Ubisoft is making an enormous mistake, especially due to the public of Flight Simulators being more mature, and therefor more likely to represent the same values stated above.

I am going to send E-mails to a few retailers within the gaming industry to explain this issue. If we're lucky, one of my favourite shops will import the game itself, prior selling it to the consumer, which will safe me the hassle of using a foreign site, which is, a disaster due to not having a creditcard and language restrictions.

I hope we'll get some good news in the future, for a change.

It's a sign of the times my friend. Even PS3 games will soon be bought on online via Steam. If Steam ever goes belly up, I'll bet they'll release a patch so the game's you bought will be unlocked, even if their Licence Agreement says they have no obligation to do so. Failing that, the hackers will step in.

I would rather bye the box copy than down loading it. I hate down loading games it takes to long, the box give 1 hr installing and patching and your playing.
Down loading you waiting 6 or more hour then may have a power outage or some so you may have to re down load the 6hrs again, it a pain in the sun dont shine

Same here, in fact a freind of mine bought a DVD version of Napolean Total War which is a Steam game, only to find that the DVD only contained a link to Steam to download it online. So i didnt buy that game, as i have a cap of 10GB a month on my internet. I cant afford to spend £1 per GB over my limit, just because Steam says i have to. Especially when I already bought the game.
If they did that with IL2, that would kill me.

You can install steam games from CD you just have to wait for the game to unlock on steam and then install it!

Would it be illegal if someone copied the European/Steam edition to one of the torrent sites and we download it from there? When you install it on your computer you could activate it through Steam and pay that way. Just a thought. Could spare us 3 weeks of waiting. I'm not talking piracy here. I can barely see the logic of a staggered box release. A staggered digital release throws me really for a loop. I hope for 1C's sake that the program does not get cracked before release in the Americas.

If they are really going to delay the US release a month, I hope the game gets cracked and that they lose a lot of sales. Then maybe they'll learn not to do such stupid things in the future.

Digital distribution is FINE so long as they make it FAIR for everyone. Why make us wait an extra month when everyone else has it early, its DIGITAL there is no need to add this delay for artificial reasons, it only makes people want to torrent it and play it whilst they wait, but there's always the risk they will just not pay for it when its available to them? Why take the risk..make it available to ALL who want to purchase. Are you listening UBISOFT???

I know what you mean, exchanging the game files that won't work without a valid key anyway, then using a legitimate key that you paid for to unlock the game. It's not piracy because it won't work for free, it's just like having someone send you a copy from Europe. However, i doubt it would work.

Steam versions are region locked anyway. The boxed versions will use Solidshield DRM instead of steam protection, but nobody knows if that's region locked as well.

If they are really going to delay the US release a month, I hope the game gets cracked and that they lose a lot of sales. Then maybe they'll learn not to do such stupid things in the future.

Maybe you should dig a bit deeper here. We do know that boxed editions will take some time to ship, but download editions should be available easily. This leads me to believe there's only two reasonable scenarios why this delay happens.

1) An outside influence. The game needs to be reviewed by the ESRB and get a rating assigned to it before it can be distributed. How long this takes is anyone's guess.
2) An inside deal between different retailers/publishers. The digital download platforms have a deal or contract term with the ones selling boxed editions, they'll delay the release until the physical boxes arrive so that digital download platforms don't hog all the preorders and early sales.

In both cases, you should be pointing your finger at someone over your side of the pond and not the developers. ;)

I am not blaming the developers, but whoever is responsible for the decision to not release all over the world at the same time. If there is a delay, because of the need to get an ESRB rating or whatever, then they should delay the release everywhere. Having different release dates is a really bad idea. And if the difference is almost a month, that's a REALLY bad idea. That's like inviting people to pirate the game.

I think that many people in the US are not just going to go a month of reading about how we here in Europe are enjoying the game without getting to play it themselves, not when there is certainly going to be cracked versions around that they can download.

Im sorry I feel for you guys, However welcome to the british gamers way of life. MOST games are released here after the states, and some even cancel the uk release altogether. (Nascar 2011 for example, Yes its a console game, my guilty secret :) ) Yes it is frustracting, trust me ive been there many many times.

I do agree that all games should be released at the same time, in this day and age, and you're right it is being distributed via digital then why the hold up it dosn't make sense.

Threating to pirate the sim however only harms you in the long run, as by not supporting the developers will only have one effect, the series being cancelled.

Its sad that you guys have been shafted twice, once with the collectors edition and now this, Any chance someone official can come and explain the decision or reasoning behind this.

Where we live in the world shouldn't make a difference. WE are all Simmers, so we all deserve the same level of service.

Ah i see what you mean. Yes, staggered releases are indeed a recipe for increased piracy. It might start innocent for many "ah, let's try this game, i'm going to buy it anyway when it's released here", but then they settle for their illegal copy and never get round to buying a legitimate one.
On the other hand, i don't expect the majority of the real fans to settle for a pirated copy even if they download one.

At least that's what i would do if my region's release was delayed, i could be tempted to try an illegal version to try out and get a feel for the game, but i'd still buy a legitimate copy as soon as possible, first of all to support the developers and second, i like collecting boxes of games i really like. But in any case, you are correct that a certain number of people would not upgrade to a legitimate, bought copy.

On the other hand the developing studio is strapped for cash, so maybe they really needed an injection to keep going and that's why they decided to distribute on each region as soon as they can. Maybe it's a "lesser of two evils" kind of thing.
