Its fiction Athos, but seems to get good reviews, and is apparently well researched. I had never heard of it either!

Yep, a novel about a fictitious Luftwaffe pilot who becomes an ace and the unwilling darling of the newsreels. It ticks all the boxes for a men's novel written in the late 70's. Dunmore writes very well though. Bomb Run and Final Approach are his other two that are very good indeed. I'll take my copy of Ace to work with me and see if I can scan a few pages. It'll give you an idea.

Take your novel to work by all means, hang it in the toilet, everyone needs emergency toilet roll!

Hi Athos, here are a couple of pages from the prologue to give you an idea.

Ace, Spencer Dunmore:

Lol yeah that came across a bit harsh

Very interesting read Feathered IV,I was a bit skeptical about aviation novels myself, but then Ive read a couple of very good ones (piece of cake and mustang summer) which in a way are more gripping than true bios.

An aviation novel is meant to be entertaining, not necessarily informative,so being them on I say

As for actual bios,I would defo reccommend Gunther Rall's last bio, which is possibly the last and more recent autobio we'll ever see of a Luftwaffe ace (well I don't think he wrote it himself, but he supervised and obviously contributed to it).
Got a signed copy of it too,I wish I had the chance to meet him,he always came across as such a nice chap!
